The housing stock
San Felipe sold part of its original township to the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railroad to create Sealy in 1879, and the town takes its name from George Sealy of Galveston, the railroad's majority stockholder. In 1881 Daniel Haynes, a cotton gin builder here, filled a request for a cotton-filled mattress and founded the company that still carries the town's name.
