Thirty-two communities, and they do not have the same roofs

The service area runs from nineteenth-century raised houses on a barrier island to subdivisions finished last year on open prairie. What a roof needs here depends far more on when it was built, and on how much open water sits in front of it, than on which company you call.

What Greater Houston does to a roof

Four things, and they are not the four a roofer in a cold-winter market would name. Heat and ultraviolet load age the covering every day of the year, and daily thermal cycling works the sealant strips and the fasteners with it. Humidity moves through the attic and decides how long the deck lasts, which makes intake ventilation at the soffit a structural question rather than a comfort one. Wind arrives as thunderstorm gusts most years and as a tropical system in some, and it attacks the perimeter first. And hail arrives on its own schedule, with the largest stone in this dataset recorded in Galveston County in 2024.

What is absent matters too. There are no ice dams here, and essentially no built-in box gutters, because the stock that carries them was built somewhere else in another century. Anything you read about a Gulf Coast roof that leads with freeze-thaw was written for a different city.

The coastal windstorm line

Closer to the water, wind and hail are frequently excluded from a standard homeowners policy and covered by a separate windstorm policy instead, and new roofing work has to be inspected and certified for that cover to attach to it. Galveston, Chambers and Brazoria counties are the ones in this service area that put an address inside or partly inside that regime, which is why Galveston, Texas City, Seabrook and Angleton are a different job from Katy or Conroe even when the house looks the same. It is settled before a tear-off, not after one.

Several of these cities also straddle county lines, and a few straddle three or four. The county listed on each page is the one the city is normally associated with; the full list from the Census place boundary is on the page beside it, because which county an address sits in can change who inspects the work and what has to be certified.
