Roofing in South Houston
A dense, small, mostly post-war city hemmed in by Houston and Pasadena, where the lots are small, the roofs are simple, and most of them are old.
The housing stock
C. S. Woods of the Western Land Company founded the settlement of Dumont in 1907; a post office followed in 1910 and it incorporated as the city of South Houston in 1913, which is why Houston annexed around it. Early industry was produce shipping on the Galveston, Houston and Henderson Railroad, and the 1915 hurricane destroyed much of it. The city grew quickly between the 1940s and the early 1960s as manufacturing moved inland from the Ship Channel.

Hail leads wind in this record, which shifts the emphasis onto what the mat under the granules looks like rather than onto what the slope looks like from the driveway. A hail bruise is felt more reliably than it is seen, and a photograph taken from ground level will not show it.
Neither number describes the thing that ages a roof here fastest, which is simply the climate. Ultraviolet load, daily thermal cycling and humid air moving through the attic will take an asphalt roof to the end of its service life without a single recorded storm passing over it, and the south and west slopes get there first.
